Hello!

I contacted your organization a couple weeks ago and am interested in sharing information about your organization, specifically the peace curriculum, on our Rotarian Action Group for Peace website.

The Rotarian Action Group for Peace supports Rotary International’s peace and conflict prevention/resolution area of focus. We are devoted to working together for the purpose of advancing peace and preventing conflict by supporting peace initiatives within the Rotary world and beyond.

I am currently working on creating a matrix of existing peace curriculum/programs. It is our goal to create a matrix that Rotarians can use as an online tool designed to help Rotarians, clubs and districts identify quality peace education curriculum that may be a good fit for their communities.

We would love to share information about your curriculum/program on our Rotarian Action Group for Peace matrix and website. By doing so, we are hoping Rotarians will be more easily able to connect with quality curriculum.

If you are willing to share information about your curriculum/program for us to highlight in our Peace Curriculum matrix, please consider filling out the quick survey copied below. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact me directly.

Thank you for your time!

Dear Teaching Peace Initiative,

I read about your organization Teaching Peace Initiative in the Yale Daily News and thought that you are the perfect organization to invite to a couple of events that I’m helping organize. I’m a third-year PhD student in the Political Science Department at Yale University, and I’m organizing these events with Prof. Elisabeth Wood and the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict (ICNC). I hope you can participate in the conference and spread the word far and wide!

The first event is a one-and-a-half-day conference on civil resistance and nonviolent action this Thursday and Friday (9/25-26), which will feature various speakers from ICNC, a professor from Rutgers University, and Rev. James Lawson, the iconic leader from the U.S. Civil Rights Movement in Nashville. It should be a fantastic workshop! For more information please email me (consuelo.amat@yale.edu) and I can send you the schedule and e-Classroom.

The second event is a lecture by Rev. Lawson at 7pm on Thursday September 25 in Room 120 of the Yale Law School. For those who cannot attend the seminar that I mention above but are interested in hearing Rev. Lawson, I’d recommend this event. I have a flyer and could send it via email — just let me know.

I hope that you are interested in participating. If so, please send me an email to RSVP. Is there someone else in your organization to whom I should reach out? Could you please forward this announcement to others in the Teaching Peace Initiative? I would greatly appreciate it if you could spread the word about these events as far and wide as possible.

Let me know if you have any questions.

All best,

Consuelo

Dear Teaching Initiative,

What you guys are doing is absolutely wonderful and please keep it up!

The non-profit organization that I am a part of- Network for Peace through Dialogue- a non-profit organization located in New York that is involved in the campaign towards ending the trafficking of women. Sex trafficking is the world’s third largest crime and not as well-addressed as it should be. We are trying to get as many people to recognize it and take action towards it immediately. The first step for this is educating people on this topic.

We have created an educational packet called Modern Slavery: The Secret World of Trafficking of Women. It is an resource for community groups, women’s groups, faith-based groups, social justice groups, colleges and and high school classes. This packet also includes a DVD featuring an active anti-trafficking activist Sr. Eugenia Bonetti. Furthermore, it contains an outline on how to effectively address the problem of sex trafficking and its end in a session that engages the group in dialogue and action.

You can see how this packet has been used by more than 45 groups on our website at http://www.networkforpeace.com/topics/trafficking/human_trafficking.html.

It is available for $15 through the link http://www.networkforpeace.com/resources/publications_purchase.html. I feel like this packet may be a good resource for you. At the same time, if you know of anyone else who may be interested in this piece please do let me know. I am really looking forward to your response.

Keep up the great work,

Thank you,

Maisha Maliha,

Dear Fish, I was delighted to receive your report about the successes of Teaching Peace Initiative. I agree the world does not have to have so many tragic events like the Navy shooting, Narobi attack and student suicides. The work you and the rest of TPI are doing offers so much hope to the world.

I am working now to arrange my own life so that I can offer as much help as possible to the work all of you are doing. I had a medical appointment with a specialist last Tuesday and will be having two major surgeries in the next few months. They are serious surgeries but I will be okay. I am just thankful to have medical care.

I will let you and the volunteer coordinator assigned to me in a few days some ideas I have concerning ways I can help the work you are all doing.

For now I wanted to commend all of TPI members on the tremendous work you are all doing. And I want to thank all of you for putting hope, love and peace into the world instead of despair.

Have a very wonderful week and I will be in contact again in a few ideas with possible ways I can help your work while I take care of my health needs.

Kind regards,

Jo Ann Koepke
